I usually do not give my students specific homework assignments during the week. I do, however, expect them to read and study their vocabulary terms on a consistant basis.
Usually on Fridays, we will read our silent reading novels in class. Every other Friday, students must turn in a silent reading analysis. If a student does not read 50 pages in two weeks, he or she will receive a zero on the assignment. This analysis helps me monitor each student's progress.
If a student misses school on the date the analysis is due, he or she is still responsible for the assignment. The assignment should be turned in when the student returns to school.
